DESCRIPTION:During the conference in Amsterdam\, FLAGSHIPS lessons are part of Persee’s presentation in the session on Assessing alternative fuels for hybrid vessels\, 22 June. \n\n\n\nColin Bettini\, Technical lead – fuel cell at Persee\, will present Successes and challenges of fuel cell and hydrogen propulsion systems. \n\n\n\nFuel cell hybrid systems are steadily emerging as a solution for the decarbonization of commercial transport. Hydrogen and other hydrogen carriers achieve high emission savings from widely used fuels and drive high expectations for the shipping of the future. \n\n\n\nThe presentation outlines the experience\, hurdles and success of four ongoing FCHJU-funded maritime projects: Maranda\, Flagships\, ShipFC and HyShip. In a cross-analysis\, we will explore the readiness level of the hydrogen and fuel cell technologies available on the European market. \n\n\n\nThe presentation also addresses current and upcoming challenges to truly achieve zero-emission shipping.

SUMMARY:Nor-Shipping 2022: Hydrogen vessels ready for zero-emission cargo transport
DESCRIPTION:The world´s first hydrogen cargo vessel is ready to ply the river Seine in 2022 – transporting goods emission-free in the middle of Paris. \n\n\n\nThe revolutionary FLAGSHIPS project will take zero-emission waterborne transport to an entirely new level by deploying two commercially operated hydrogen fuel cell vessels. The second vessel will prove green compressed hydrogen as a zero-emission fuel also on more power demanding routes – starting operating on the river Rhine in 2023. \n\n\n\nMonday 4 April the FLAGSHIPS partners will present the hydrogen vessels at the Maritime CleanTech stage (T02 -27) at 15.30.

DESCRIPTION:Shipping is searching for its new zero-emissions power technology. Whilst combustion engines are still the market leaders\, fuel cell providers are intriguing us with the promise of higher efficiency and lowered fuel consumption. How ready are the FC technologies\, and do they have a solid business case? And just how much more effective are they proving to be?     \n\n\n\nWhile fuels such as ammonia and hydrogen will drastically reduce emissions\, we also see vast potential in utilizing a higher percentage of the energy available in each fuel. This is where fuel cells come in\, as the most energy-efficient devices for extracting power from fuels. \n\n\n\nThe European projects ShipFC and FLAGSHIPS are both demonstrating fuel cell technologies for achieving their zero-emission solutions for maritime activities. In this Tech Update\, we’ve gathered representatives from ShipFC\, FLAGSHIPS\, and other leading actors within the FC ecosystem. DESCRIPTION:Flagships partner CFT (Compagnie Fluvial de Transport) participate at this hydrogen event. The french state has decided to invest massively in the production of clean hydrogen and its use in transport. However\, researchers and manufacturers had not waited. An ecosystem has been in place for some thirty years\, particularly in Burgundy-Franche-Comté. A number of manufacturers are already implementing solutions for running on hydrogen\, whether gaseous\, liquid or in the form of fuel cells. The distribution network is beginning to be set up. As old as the conquest of space\, hydrogen is gaining ground in the transport and logistics sectors\, while becoming clean. How and what to invest in?
